![]() Tech will be mentioned in boxes such as these. Such rules interactions are dubbed as “Tech” within the optimization community. There are plenty of things that work as written, but are likely not intended and won’t fly at most tables. To do that, we’ll rely on the Kobold as printed in Volo’s Guide to Monsters.ĭnD 5e is an awkwardly written game. As stated in the Artificer guide, we don’t need to do the damage expected from a Fighter with the Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter feats, but ideally, we still should be above a Warlock spamming Hex and Eldritch Blast with the Agonizing Blast Invocation. However, there’s a bit of a challenge to make sure their damage per round stays consistently okay. We are still a Spellcaster and Battlefield controller first, but we’ll have decent to sometimes good damage to supplement this. Because of the limited resources of the Artificer half-casting spell slot growth, the Battle Smith smooths out the basic Artificer playstyle by giving them a good at-will action so they’ll never have to awkwardly stand around between slinging spells. The Battle Smith gives the Artificer enough worthwhile martial abilities to become competent enough at using Martial Weapons to complement the base Artificer playstyle. I’ve talked about the Battle Smith in my own Artificer guide, but I’ll give a basic overview here. The folks at Tabletop Builds have a solid straight-classed Artillerist build, which I’ll take a bit of advice from, and I hope to complement that with a straight-classed Battle Smith build. ![]() One of the reasons I wanted to make this blog was to fill in the gap of the optimization community’s lack of solid Artificer builds. In light of that, I would not allow it even under RoC because it would essentially be a free feat.Credits to fucubed “Panda” for the Kobold Artwork Again sadly, this is not possible RAW, as infusions can only be placed on one item at a time.īut I like where your head's at, and if I were the DM, I might allow it under Rule of Cool given the resources invested to make it happen.Įdit: another comment just pointed out that Crossbow Expert exists. Now if you could infuse two handaxes with Returning Weapon, you'd be home free. If either weapon has the thrown property, you can throw the weapon, instead of making a melee attack with it. You don't add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack, unless that modifier is negative. When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you're holding in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon that you're holding in the other hand.
